How to choose the right vehicle tyres…
In search of the best/right vehicle tyres, one may keep in mind to:
- Check the tyre size and specifications- see the vehicle handbook or sidewall of tyre.
- Look at the ratings given to manufacturers brands with regard to wet and dry grip capabilities, wet and dry condition handling as well as aquaplaning resistance.
- Consider the cost of the tyre, and the value one may derive from the cost. Because a tyre is expensive does not always mean it’s the best. Check out mid-range and economy brands see whether they give similar results as high-end tyres.
- Consider the treading, beading and noise level when tyres are in traction with the road [consider noise whilst standing outside the vehicle as it passes by, secondly consider noise level when inside the vehicle]. Low noise is considered to be better.
- Consider the fact that low resistance tyres can save money. Low resistance tyres roll easier enabling the driver to get better mileage than tyres with high rolling resistance (Phys.org)
- Ensure that tyres are fit for purpose. Exercise caution when purchasing used tyres so that they are structurally sound and not cracked.
