Exterior Cleaning
Cleaning the exterior is the foundation of great vehicle
detailing. Cleaning the exterior gives one a good clue of the state of the
paint and any damages that were hidden. Before claying, buffing, polish and wax
a clean surface is mandatory.
*For vehicles that are cleaned regularly wash and wax
concentrates work best. They are formulated with optical brighteners for
surface enhancement whilst washing.
*For vehicles that are not cleaned as often, there is a
range of products. High suds, pH balanced shampoos can be used to effectively
deep clean the vehicle.
STEP 1: Ensure all Surfaces are
Cool
Cool to the touch is the standard, before washing. Work in
the shade. Rinse the entire vehicle with water and spray loose dirt out of
crevices and moldings.
STEP 2: Degrease: Wheels, Tires
and Fender Wells
Spray on degreaser/cleaner on the wheels, tires and fender
wells of the vehicle. Then, using a long-handled fender brush, agitate those
areas to dislodge stuck on grease and debris.
STEP 3: Rinse: Wheels, Tires and
Fender Wells
Using a garden hose with spray attachment, or a pressure
washer thoroughly rinse wheels, tires and fender wells.

STEP 4: Wash Exterior
Using a bucket, add approximately 3 ounces of car wash
solution to 5 gallons of water. Lather wash-mitt or cloth and begin washing at
the top and move down. Start at the roof, windows, next the hood and trunk.
Rinse lathered sections as you go along. Wash the sides and moldings then the lower
section. Rinse entire vehicle thoroughly.
STEP 5: Dry
Using a drying cloth or squeegee, work from the top down
drying the vehicle. This avoids water spots.

ReplyDeleteGosh, although I don't own a car yet I think washing it is so time consuming. Think I'll be one of the gals that carry my car to a car wash once a month. But thanks for the tips Dream Motors, I'll keep them in mind.
